Year 8 Council House Visit

On Monday 27 February, Mrs Kelly and Ms Allender took a group of 19 Year 8 students for a visit to the Council House, College Green to meet with Cllr and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Asher Craig, Cllr and Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, Clare Hiscott, and also to meet the Mayor, Marvin Rees. Cllr Asher Craig had attended Cotham School as a pupil and had visited us earlier in the year and delivered a series of assemblies to all year groups.

The purpose of this visit was to inspire our Year 8 students to take an interest in local and national politics.  We were welcomed by Cllr Craig who then introduced us to the Marvin Rees who talked about his route to becoming Mayor and this was both engaging and inspirational.  We were given a tour of the building and the students were also invited to share their ideas with Clare Hiscott about the imminent cuts in education.  She took these ideas forward to her meeting with the Minister for Education the following day.

This was a great opportunity for our students and we hope to be arranging another trip soon!
