Cotham School

Term Four at Cotham Post 16

This term we have seen our students embrace a huge range of cultural enrichment pursuits, kicking off with the first leg of the Spanish exchange to Tres Cantos.  Students enjoyed complete cultural immersion, including an opportunity to explore Madrid, testing churros con chocolate and tapas en route! The students were a credit to the school and we look forward to welcoming our partners on their return visit next term.

In addition, King Fok gave a fantastic assembly to Year 12 on the traditions of the Chinese New Year. We have also seen an enthusiastic group of Year 12 students take action to revitalise the recycling habits of their peers. Any student wishing to get involved in this should speak with Ms Muszynska.

TIGER (gender equality group) concluded their workshops with the RESPECT ambassadors this term and the students involved have already begun to develop ideas to build more widely on this work. TIGER will return to work with Year 12 during Futures 18 Week in the summer.

We have been joined by some inspiring speakers as part of Year 12’s Core programme. Duncan Tickell from Immediate Media came to speak about his life experience and offering practical advice for carving a career in the media. Students also benefited from a talk by the financial firm RSM who came in to discuss CV writing and how to apply for jobs.

As we start to look ahead to the future with our Year 12 students, we are building up to the UCAS convention which takes place during the first week of next term. We will be offering a PEG session to support parents on this journey in the summer term, so please keep an eye on our website.

For Year 13, the remaining days of school are ticking away and students have had transition to university workshops delivered by Future Quest on key skills including ‘how to study at uni’ and budgeting. A reminder that there is a Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) information evening on Thursday 26th April 5-6pm in G001 in Charnwood. This will include essential information for students with SEND e.g. 25% extra time, laptop entitlement, coloured paper etc. who are going to university.

As we move closer to exams, we appreciate that anxiety levels are rising for many of our students. Wellbeing drop in sessions run every Thursday lunchtime in G104 and are available for any student to borrow resources, speak to other students and have a cup of tea and refreshments. We are also continuing our termly wellbeing bulletin to our students who may not feel confident talking directly to others yet, but would like access to support materials that can use at home. Please remind to students to check their emails on the last day of term for this.

We wish all our students a restful break and look forward to seeing them next term.
