Omega Update
We are reaching 'that time' of the year again where we are looking forward to the winter break. Evenings are well and truly drawing in and we are hunkering down enjoying the festive spirit. This is the time of the year that we wrap up warm and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
It is however a time when we need to consider those less fortunate than ourselves and understand the impact that the cold weather and long nights can have on those without a warm place to stay, or suitable food to eat. The number of homeless in Bristol has risen 128% over the past three years and Bristol Council are having to cut £500,000 of funding over the next two years for households who have recently become homeless, with cuts to other housing support services too.
For the second year, we are launching the Cotham Charity Christmas Collection, run by my fantastic prefects. We are looking for donations for the Julian Trust. A night shelter located close to us in St Pauls. The items we are looking for are the following:
- Non-perishable foods. E.g. canned food/jars/pasta/rice
- Toothbrushes/Dental hygiene
- Toiletries- Deodorants/soap/ shower gels
- Sanitary products
Imagine if we could all bring just one item in each, we would raise such a substantial amount which would make such a huge difference to those who need it.
Over the next 4 weeks, we are looking to collect any donations. Donation boxes will be by student reception, in tutor bases and in my room, C203.
Along a similar vein, with only 19 more school days until the winter break... We have the annual Santa Dash taking place at lunchtime on Thursday 19 December. The last full day of term. The Santa dash is a fun-run around the school site. One lap of mud-slipping, tree dodging, Mr Slane tripping, corridor squeezing fun. It will be 50p to enter, with all money raised going to Omega House Charity.
There are prizes and house points for:
- 1st, 2nd, 3rd KS3 & KS4 girls and boys
- The tutor group with the most entries
- Muddiest finisher
- Best Christmas themed outfit.
All competitors will get a free Santa hat, and any additional dressing up is strongly encouraged!
Our Omega legend for this term is Lani in Year 11. Lani has been an outstanding example of a student who makes an incredible committed effort, particularly with GCSE mock exam season in full swing. Thank you for being an amazing ambassador for our house.
A few more notices!
A reminder! House water bottles are available on WisePay. These are £1.30 and not for profit! Save plastic, save the turtles!
KS3 House Christmas Disco is on Friday 13 December 5-7pm. Tickets are £3 and will be available from WisePay shortly to purchase, they are also available from house prefects.
Finally, I would like to wish you all a fantastic end to the term!
All the best
Mr Nunn
