People needed to become specially trained foster carers
Bristol City Council is looking for candidates to join the TFCO (Treatment Foster Care Oregon) team as full time foster carers. This is a paid role. TFCO is an intensive foster care programme which works with children aged 7 - 11, over a 9 - 12 month period. The children which the Council works with have challenging behaviours, which means the team approach is really important to us. The Council supports carers working with these children in every aspect of the child’s life. In the team there is an education worker, skills coaches, a social worker, a birth family worker, respite carers and a team leader. But foster carers are needed to make the team complete!
Could this be you? Many teams nationally include those from the education sector. They have experience helping children manage difficult feelings, and can work to a structure but be adaptable when needed. If you have experience of working with challenging behaviour, the Council would like to hear from you. Full training is provided along with ongoing support from the team around the child. Please email the Council at: firstname.lastname@example.org for an information pack or feel free to ask any questions.
Recruiting Governors from the business community
In December, Bristol Learning City will be launching a campaign to encourage members of the business community to apply for school governor and trustee roles. There are many vacancies across Bristol.
Schools will benefit from skills that employees can bring to boards of governors and trustees – skills ranging from project management to legal and HR experience.
Likewise, businesses will benefit from the skills and learning that board members can bring back to the workplace. Businesses will also demonstrate good Corporate Social Responsibility by encouraging employees to be involved.
A new process, which is in place through Inspiring Governance, matches potential governors to Bristol schools. The Governor Development Service has been in touch with schools about this – please register so that your school can benefit. Bristol Learning City have produced an introduction to governorship for businesses, explaining the easy application process and what to expect:
- Take a few minutes to explore the interactive PDF, ‘Could you be a governor?’
- This intro delivers readers to Bristol’s apply-online portal – Be a Governor in Bristol
Bristol Learning City are working in partnership with Business West and Skills West to deliver this campaign. They are well placed to bring the governance message to companies.
