Gamma is thrilled to welcome students back this new academic year. The last few months have really hit home how important it is to come together as a school community and it has been a delight to see so many students together again. We have embraced creativity within our communication methods so this term saw us launch our first virtual assembly. We started off by celebrating those students who have started the year brilliantly by gaining the most house points in their Year group.

These students are-
Year 7

Year 8
Year 9

Year 10
Year 11

A special shout out to Mustafa who received a phone call home and special celebration because he has the most House points in the whole school! Miss Madge is very proud.

We also welcome back our new Gamma leadership - Osh, Parteet, Zara, Rosa and Naysa to introduce themselves to the rest of Gamma. They were very keen to take the lead on our new Gamma fundraising with Above and Beyond. We are pleased to continue supporting Above and Beyond as our House charity this year. Above and Beyond helps to support local Bristol hospitals and Gamma has helped specifically to raise money for the Children’s hospital. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped fundraise for us before. We have raised thousands of pounds through events and non uniform days in the last few years.

Gamma has previously worked with Bluebell ward before to help fund one of their ceiling hoists. The children and staff at the ward were really grateful for this support. Bluebell Ward does not currently have a working bathroom, and staff must take patients to other wards in order to use theirs. This involves moving patients and, with strict rules to help prevent infection, this is a highly time consuming task. The NHS can only provide a basic bathroom, which does not cater for the severely disabled children on Bluebell Ward, meaning some children may not be able to experience bath time for months. We want to give children on Bluebell ward the best experience possible during their stay in hospital, with a new, specially designed bathroom to cater to their needs. This includes a bath with adjustable height; an overhead ceiling hoist to help children in and out of the bath, or into their wheelchair; a shower trolley to wash children that cannot get into the bath, and an adapted toilet and sink.

This project will make a huge difference to the lives of children on Bluebell ward during their long stays, and transform their experience in hospital. £2,300 would pay for a ceiling hoist to help severely disabled children in and out of the bath which is what we are aiming our fundraising towards. We look forward to seeing you at our next fundraising event!
