At Cotham School we are committed to fostering a learning community where every student, regardless of background, is respected, included and empowered to achieve their fullest potential. Our core values of respect, diversity and achievement are central to our Pupil Premium Strategy.

We would like to highlight a really important part of the funding available for your child's education - the Pupil Premium fund. This is additional funding provided by the government to help schools support disadvantaged pupils in a range of ways. Schools receive funding for each eligible student, however it is not a personal resource for the student.

Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?

• Students are eligible for Pupil Premium funding if their family qualifies for Targeted Free School Meals (households receiving Universal Credit with annual household earnings of £7,400 or less); or have received Free School Meals in the last six years (Ever 6 FSM). • Children who are looked after in the care of the local authority, or who are previously looked after.

How do we use Pupil Premium Funding?

At Cotham School, we support students who are eligible for Pupil Premium by using the additional funding to contribute towards the following key areas:

• To ensure and develop the quality of teaching for all students, for example through staff professional development and access to whole-school resources.

• To provide targeted academic support, for example literacy, numeracy or EAL intervention.

• To provide wider strategies to tackle barriers to success in school, for example access to resources, engagement with trips and extracurricular opportunities, and providing support to improve attendance, and develop behaviour and social and emotional support. 

What could this support look like for students?

• Below is a list of possible support available for students who are eligible for PP. The list is not exhaustive, and staff at the school will determine what support is most appropriate for each student. If you’d like to request further support or information, please contact your child’s Learning Coordinator here.

• Interventions and engagement to support students’ attendance at school and to remove any barriers to attending.

• Interventions in Maths, Literacy and EAL to ensure any gaps in foundational learning are closed.

• Financial support to attend trips and events linked to the school curriculum. Please see guidance here.

• Opportunities to attend external events such as workshops or visits to organisations, companies and further and higher education institutions.

• Opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities within the school, such as House Prefects, Student Leadership, Sports Leaders etc.

• Invitations to key school events celebrating success and achievements,such as Awards Evenings  and Leavers Proms etc.

• Access to careers related in-school and external events, and careers guidance from Year 9 onwards.

• Where considered necessary, referrals to professionals in school and external agencies to provide specialist support such as: Behaviour Support, Therapeutic support, Learning Mentor support and Student and Family Support.

• Access to a free breakfast in the dining hall each morning.

• Access to resources to support engagement with the curriculum: revision resources, equipment, support with Art and DT equipment

• Where the need arises at the discretion of the school, access to additional resources such as uniform, stationery, Yondr pouches, or laptop and broadband connection at home.
